The Mexican Association of Shipping Agents (AMANAC) has called on national ports to improve their competitiveness through reduced tariffs, which are among the highest in the world.
In addition, it wants to see the number of checks levied by officials – which it deems “excessive” - reduced, since this has resulted in a loss of valuable transhipment traffic to other Latin American ports.
AMANAC has also called for a shake up at the various institutions governing ports, such as the General Organisation of Ports and Merchant Marine and the Integrated Port Administrations, which are now 20 years old.
